The Alentejo region of Portugal has only recently become a popular tourist destination for those from outside Portugal. As such, it retains a truly unspoiled feel. The Alentejo region covers a surprisingly large geographical area, and between the towns the area can feel endearingly desolate. Large rolling hills are covered in flowers at certain times of year, and temperatures can be extreme: both freezing cold in winter and roasting hot in summer.
